People love Delta 8 as an alternative cannabinoid to Delta 9 THC, but what about HHC? I’m going to cover everything you need to know in this guide, from using HHC carts (vaping), through to detailed descriptions of the three variants of HHC you can use.
HHC is one of many modern novel cannabinoids, but interestingly, it’s actually been known about since the 1940s, but has only recently become fashionable.
We will cover how to use it, what infused products are available, dosing, urine testing, safety, and where to buy HHC products.
If you’d like to check out a couple of high-quality products right now, you can here:
The Differences Between HHC, HHC-P & HHC-O
1. HHC
HHC (Hexahydrocannabinol) has long been discovered as a minor cannabinoid in both hemp and cannabis plants. It’s a trace element though, and therefore isn’t extracted for sale because it’s too expensive.
HHC, like many other novel cannabinoids, is actually converted mostly from CBD, just as Delta 8 and Delta 10 are converted from CBD.
HHC was actually discovered in the 1940s, when a chemist called Roger Adams added hydrogen to THC. However, it must be noted that HHC is a naturally occurring cannabinoid that is found in hemp and cannabis plants and is not artificial.

2. HHC-P
This is an isomer of THC. It’s a stronger form of HHC. Its structure has been changed yet again through an artificial process that involves it being hydrogenated.
So HHC-P is created through HHC being hydrogenated, which itself has also been hydrogenated. It is therefore an artificial cannabinoid, and is not found in the hemp or cannabis plants.
HHC-P has an increased bonding ability to the CB1 receptor, when compared to both HHC and Delta 9 THC. Therefore, its effects are more aggressive (although that doesn’t necessarily mean stronger).
3. HHC-O
HHC-O is the acetate version of core HHC. So it’s not a naturally occurring cannabinoid either, and is artificially created.
Acetic anhydride is added, which changes its chain and its strength. It binds to the CB1 receptor with a higher affinity than Delta 9 THC, meaning it can produce strong effects.
This is the strongest variant of HHC. Completely artificial, it binds with a very high affinity to the receptors and delivers effects which are far stronger than those that can be produced by THC.
Note that stronger doesn’t mean more extreme, it just means the effects it can produce happen more efficiently. If you genuinely want to get high then HHC-O is the variant you should be looking at, but it doesn’t mean it’s going to get you more high than strong cannabis.
HHC Vs THC
HHC is basically a modified Delta 9 THC structure. Because it’s found in trace elements naturally, this is done with hydrogen in the lab to create higher volumes, and is also created by converting CBD.
HHC is therefore not actually structurally THC, even though it’s very similar. But it is an agonist of the CB1 receptor, and has some of the same effects. However, they are milder than Delta 9 THC.
The problem is that HHC binds well to the receptors, but some of the HHC is inactive, and in each batch we don’t know how much is inactive. Therefore, the experience can be patchy. This is partially sold though with HHC-P and HHC-O, which do bind with a very strong affinity to cannabinoid receptors.
HHC-O is the next most potent, and then HHC-P, which some people claim is stronger than Delta 9 THC.
The problem is that there are still inactive HHC elements, so you’re never quite sure how strong each batch will be.
HHC Vs Delta 8
The primary difference between Delta 8 and HHC is that Delta 8 is an agonist of both the CB1 and CB2 receptors, whereas HHC is an agonist of the CB 1 receptor only.
CBD is an agonist of the CB2 receptor, and therefore Delta 8 has something in common with that as well.
Delta 8 is therefore milder, with a broader range of positive effects and feelings. HHC, like Delta 9 THC, only hits the CB1 receptor, and is therefore harsher and more targeted in its effects in a similar way to cannabis.
I personally see Delta 8 is more therapeutic. It’s calming and relaxing, delivers pain relief, makes you feel happier, but with it all being very mild and almost running in the background.
HHC and its variants, and much more upfront, and a higher doses, can make you drop out and get high in the same way as THC 9.
HHC Effects: Does It Get You High?
HHC can get you high. But it’s a very gentle high that only comes with stronger doses. It’s a much more subtle high that mellows you, lift your mood, and makes you slightly hazy. So, a bit like Delta 8 at higher doses.
But HHC-P and HHC-O are definitely stronger and will give you a high if the dose is good enough.
With HHC-O it’s still quite subtle and restrained, but definitely stronger and more fully encompassing than standard HHC.
HHC-P is the strongest form of HHC available. It will give you a strong buzz that is far closer to Delta 9 THC than the others. At higher doses, you really can get high on this stuff, but it will also have the downside to potentially causing anxiety and other side effects.
Put all that together, and generally, HHC is a group that can produce the following effects:
- Relaxing and calming
- Reduction of anxiety (unless using high doses of HHC-P)
- Increasing confidence
- A buzz or high
- Relieves aches and pains
- Can help with insomnia
HHC Dosage & HHC Cartridge Use
The dosage you need will depend on the type of HHC you are taking, and the effects you want to experience.
Broadly, you’re talking about low effects up to 50 mg, stronger effects up to 100 mg, and the potential to get high and have overwhelming effects above 100 mg.
However, note that HHC-P and HHC-O are stronger, especially HHC-O, you may need lower doses. Some people report getting high on as little as 30 mg, but more often 60 mg of that variant.
When talking about dosing with disposable vapes or vape carts (cartridges) the dose you are getting is much more difficult to quantify, because you don’t know how much are taking in.
For me though, and anecdotally from others I’ve read online, three or four hits from the vape is usually enough to feel notable effects, so feeling like that mid-range dose.
Five or six hits should give you strong effects. To do it, make sure you inhale slowly, hold for a few seconds, and then exhale slowly to ensure that you get the maximum dose.
How Long Does HHC Stay In Your System?
Although HHC is not THC, it’s still stays in the body for around the same amount of time. Note though that very little research has been done into HHC, and we don’t really know how long it stays in the body, and the effects it has both long and short-term are anecdotal.
But because it’s at its root a cannabinoid, and structurally similar even in the HHC-P and HHC-O variants, then physically, we can treat it the same for urine testing.
THC tends to hang around in the body for around three or four days, and that’s how long it’s detectable in urine for. This time dramatically increases though as you take it more regularly. Regular daily smokers for example, can test positive one or two months after the last joint.
That’s because THC is shaped so that it gets attached to fat cells, and as these work free they mostly get removed through the bowels, but note this is sporadically.
So we have to assume that HHC is going to be broadly the same in all three of its formats.
Therefore, if you’re a really intermittent user, then three or four days and you’ll be clean to submit a urine sample. But if you are taking this most days of the week, week after week, then it could be two, three, or four weeks before you can start testing clean.
However, there is a big caveat here that I want to mention. It’s assumed that HHC will metabolize into something very similar to THC-NOOH. However, some urine tests look specifically for a metabolite called 11-hydroxy-THC and HHC does not metabolize into this, so it may not be detected on some tests.
How To Pass An HHC Urine Test
It’s best to just assume that HHC and its variants will be detected as cannabis on a standard test, whether it’s hair, saliva, urine.
Therefore, the strategies that work for cannabis will work for HHC use:
1. For a urine test the best option is synthetic urine. Sub Solution is a great option. That way, as long as it’s an unsupervised test, you don’t need to submit your own sample at all to pass.
2. You could mask the metabolites for a few hours with a good quality detox drink called Rescue Cleanse. This accelerates the removal of toxins in the body so that there is a gap in the flow for a few hours during which you would test negative.
3. To pass and mouthswab test, Oral Clear saliva neutralizing gum (a concentrated liquid capsule) is the best option. It’s discreet and will neutralize your saliva of all metabolites for about 15 minutes.
4. Although it’s more involved, for a hair test, you can use something called the Macujo method to flush out all toxins from the strands of hair on your head to pass.
Is HHC Safe: Are There Any Side Effects?
HHC itself has been known for many years, but very little research has been done into it, and it’s only in the past few years that it’s been used recreationally.
Therefore, there is very little observational evidence for establishing a safety profile. However, it is very similar in structure to other cannabinoids, which have many years of use and study behind them, and there’s little reason to think that the side effects or problems with HHC would be any different.
HHC-O may be slightly different because it’s the acetate version which is stronger. Because it produces stronger effects, it could produce stronger side effects.
However, just like cannabis, it would appear that you would have to be sensitive to those side effects through how your endocannabinoid receptors react to being stimulated. This is why some people get anxious using cannabis, while others don’t, amongst other things.
What’s The Best: HHC Carts Or HHC Syrup?
Whichever variant of HHC you decide to use, there’s some decisions to be made about the best way to consume it.
If you want the quickest hit with the least effort, then HHC cartridges are the best way to go. Whether it’s an HHC cartridge fitted into a vape, or a disposable vape, they are easy and quick to use, and give you a strong dose in just half a dozen inhalations.
But they can be quite expensive because of this, they can also have a couple of health problems for people as well. Firstly, if you are sensitive, then it can be very uncomfortable and make you cough a lot. Secondly, you could have concerns about vaping oils and inhaling them for the long term.
So looking at edibles, HHC syrup is a great choice because it’s so easy to consume. Simply put it in milk, or ice, and you’ve got a delicious drink that will make you calm and maybe even a little high .Alternatively, gummies and softgels are brilliant way to consume HHC and other cannabinoids. These are brilliant for taking through the day, helping you with work stress as well.
Another option is HHC tincture oil. Usually with a good dose per bottle, it’s easy to drip this under the tongue and sublingually absorb it, meaning you’ll get a good dose with very little effort at all.
I’m going to talk you through the best HHC cartridge options in a moment, but if you’d like to check out some of the options I’ve just mentioned, you can here:

Where To Find HHC For Sale
The problem with these novel cannabinoids is finding them for sale at all. The grey area legality, and the fact that they are difficult to extract or create means that very few sellers in the USA that actually sell them.
I don’t know if it’s true, but I’ve read that for some of these cannabinoids, only one factory in the USA is currently set up to produce them, which is why only a handful of selected sellers can actually get them. However, there are two places which will supply you with the best of everything you need.
1. BinoidCBD
Whatever you need, these guys have it. 13 different cannabinoids are available, and that doesn’t account for the mixed products that contain more than one.
