Skin pigmentation is the colouring of the skin and is determined by the amount of melanin produced by the body. It ranges from very light to very dark, depending on the amount of melanin present. Melanin is the pigment that gives colour to the skin, hair, and eyes. Pigmentation disorders can affect the colour of the skin, making it lighter or darker than normal. This can be caused by a variety of factors, including sun exposure and certain medications.
In an interaction with OnlyMyHealth, Ayurveda expert Dr. Ganesh Chaudhary shared some tips to reduce skin pigmentation.

Turmeric
Known for its skin-lightening effects, turmeric can be applied to the skin by combining it with milk, aloe vera pulp, or ghee. To minimise pigmentation, simple turmeric can be applied to the skin once or twice a day.

Sandalwood

Aloe Vera Juice
Wash the skin regularly with plain water before and after going out. Aloe vera juice can be used as a cleanser and toner, followed by vitamin E oil application.
Potato juice
Potato juice can be highly effective in curing dark spots produced by excess melanin. To activate the potato fluids, slice a potato and apply a few drops of water to the potato.
Papaya
Papaya is high in papain enzyme. This enzyme aids in the exfoliation of the skin and the removal of dead cells. After the epidermal layer's cells have been destroyed, fresh skin cells will regenerate.

Although skin pigmentation is usually harmless, people may opt to eliminate or decrease it. Avoiding sun exposure and adopting removal techniques such as cosmetic treatments, creams, and home cures are options. If a person detects other symptoms in addition to skin pigmentation, they should consult a doctor.
A dermatologist can advise on the best treatment approaches if a person wants to cure skin pigmentation for cosmetic reasons. Aside from these food ingredients, there are several topical applications that aid in diminishing skin pigmentation, such as kumkumadi oil, nalpamaradi oil, eladi oil, and kanaka oil.
