Johnson & Johnson, a well-known health care products & pharmaceuticals company, has announced to remove ‘chemicals of concern’ from all the adult toiletries and cosmetic products worldwide within the next three years (2015). The harsh chemicals are said to be inclusive of cancer-causing properties. Earlier, the health care giant had pledged to reformulate its baby toiletries with safer ingredients until the end of the next year.
As a matter of fact, most cosmetic and personal care products include potentially dangerous chemicals, 1,4 dioxane and formaldehyde being the key ones. Both these chemicals are listed under probable human carcinogens. Furthermore, formaldehyde may cause skin, eye and respiratory infection.
Along with harmful chemicals, the company has plans to eradicate other deleterious ingredients that can be associated with health related problems. Among those ingredients are phthalates used in hair sprays and triclosan used in soaps. Since 2010, J & J reduced their production of the products containing formaldehyde by 33 per cent and the products inclusive of 1, 4 dioxane by 74 per cent.
