What is Haemophilia?

Haemophilia is a genetic blood disorder that does not allow the blood to clot normally. It happens because the blood cells lack blood clotting protein.

How is Haemophilia Caused?

Haemophilia can be caused due to several reasons, such as genetics, spontaneous mutations, and acquired haemophilia.

Types of Haemophilia

There are at least 13 types of Haemophilia, but the most common haemophilias are Haemophilia A, B, and C.

Haemophilia A

This haemophilia is the most common and accounts for at least 80 per cent of all cases. It is caused by deficiency of clotting factor VIII (FVIII).

Haemophilia B

This haemophilia is the second most common and is caused by deficiency of clotting factor IX (FIX).

Haemophilia C

The third type of haemophilia is a bit rare and is caused by the deficiency of clotting factor XI (FXI).

Symptoms of Haemophilia

Haemophilia has numerous symptoms, such as prolonged bleeding from cuts or wounds, bleeding from mouth or gums, blood in urine, easy bruising, and more.
