Congenital Hypertrichosis Lanuginosa
This hypertrichosis occurs when lanugo, soft hair found on babies after birth, does not disappear after a few weeks and continues to grow in various places.
Nevoid Hypertrichosis
This type of hypertrichosis does not cause hair to grow all over the body, instead it appears on a specific area of the body.
Acquired Hypertrichosis
This syndrome is not present at the time of birth but develops later on. This hypertrichosis can occur all across the body or in specific areas.
Congenital Hypertrichosis Terminalis
In this form of hypertrichosis, terminal hair grows on the scalp, eyebrows, and other areas of the body. This hair is very thick, long, and grows all over the body.
Hirsutism
This syndrome is generally caused in men by excess male hormones known as androgens. It can also be caused in women following male pattern hair growth.
