Cavities occur when the food and bacteria build up in the teeth forming plaque. This plaque produces acids eroding the enamel. Here are five early signs of cavities you should not ignore. Tap to read!

Toothache

A toothache often indicates an existing cavity. The pain or discomfort in the mouth is a common symptom of toothache.

A Hole in Tooth

As the cavity worsens, the white spots which start the cavity may worsen and leave a hole or pit in the tooth.

Sensitivity to Sweets

Eating sweets or drinking sugary drinks can also lead to tooth decay as it damages the enamel and starts the cavity.

Tooth Stains

A tooth stain occurs as white spots and as the cavity grows, the spots become darker. The stain can be brown, black, or white in colour.

Hot and Cold Sensitivity

When enamel starts to erode, it affects the hard tissue layer Dentin, under the enamel causing sensitivity whenever we eat any hot or cold food.

Swelling or Bleeding Gums

The gums near the cavity-affected tooth may swell and irritate the soft tissues. It happens when the cavity reaches the root of the tooth, leading to bleeding gums.

Unpleasant Taste

An unpleasant taste in the mouth can be a sign of tooth decay, as the bacteria multiplies and releases sulphur leading to bad breath and unpleasant taste.
