Shingles, painful skin rash caused by a virus called varicella zoster. They usually appear in a band, strip or a small area on one side of the face or body. People who have weak immune systems are prone to get affected by this condition. There are number of factors that may lead to a weak immune system such as stress, injury, certain medicine or other reasons. Most people who get shingles will get better and will not get it again. But it is possible to get shingles more than once. If you have shingles, at first you may experience headache or become sensitive to light. You will feel like as if you have flu but not have a fever. You may later feel itching, tingling or pain in a certain area. And that’s where you will get a band, strip or small area of rash a few days later. Eventually, the rash will turn into clusters of blisters, filled with fluid having a crust over. These blisters make take few weeks to heal however; you will be left with scars. You will be surprised to know that some people only experience mild rash while some don’t get any rash at all. You also experience dizziness or weakness as a result of the condition. Other symptoms of shingles include long term pain or a rash on your face, changes in the vision and rash that spreads. If you experience any of the aforementioned symptoms, you should immediately seek medical care. Once you are diagnosed with shingles your doctor will prescribe you antiviral medications.
