While menstruating, women should take extra care of their health and follow period hygiene to not fall prey to bacterial infection that are prevalent during menstruation. Since intimate hygiene is very crucial, it can cause serious complications in the future. According to Dr. Shilpa Agarwal, Consultant Gynaecologist & Obstetrics, Jaslok Hospital and Research Centre, period come every month and if period hygiene is not properly maintained, you are putting yourself at risk of chronic issues. For example, if you don’t change sanitary pads often(every 6-8 hours) during periods, it can cause several complications including pregnancy issues. Here are some hygiene tips to follow to maintain good intimate health:
- Change sanitary pads often even if you are not experiencing heavy bleeding during periods. This prevents bacteria growth and their exposure of vagina.
- Disposing off pad rightly is also an important part of menstrual hygiene. You should wrap the pad properly before disposing them.
- Do not keep an open pad in your bag for longer time. You must keep it in a cover to reduce its exposure to the environment. If you use that pad, it increases your chances of infection.
