Hydration or water content in the body of our children is very important. Onlymyhealth editorial team spoke to Dr. Neetu Talwar, Senior Consultant, Pediatric Pulmonology, Fortis Memorial Research institute, Gurugram, about simple tips to hydrate children. They are:
1. Drinking enough water
Best way of hydration is to drink plain and simple water. We must take care that our children develop habit of drinking plain water. After 6 months of age, you should make your kid drink plain water.
2. Fruits and vegetables
In older children, we can also give fruits vegetables and have enough hydration. You should have enough salads in the diet. Green leafy vegetables, buttermilk, yogurt and milk should also be consumed for appropriate hydration levels.
3. Freshly squeezed homemade juices
Packaged or readymade juices and aerated/carbonated drinks are restricted as they are very harmful for our children because these beverages are full of added sugars. Do not let them get in a habit of having these drinks. And, once the child is older than 1 year, we must not give them milk more than twice in a day. If the kid will keep drinking milk, then he/she will not eat properly.
4. Grains/Dal
We should also give grains/dal etc along with it so that they can also get other nutrients. Therefore, it is very important to have a good amount of liquid content for children for a healthy life.
