Every skin type is different, but most people remain unaware of this. Knowing about your skin type may help in choosing cosmetics. Tap to know more!
EXPERT SUGGESTION
Dr Gunjan Verma, a consultant dermatologist at Manipal Hospitals, Dwarka, Delhi, explained how you can understand the different skin types.
NORMAL SKIN
A normal skin type is usually neither too dry nor too oily. People with a normal skin type have a soft and smooth texture with fine pores and no hyperpigmentation.
DRY SKIN
Your skin becomes dry in the absence of urea and amino acids, which are natural moisturising components. People with dry skin types have tight, rough, and dull skin.
OILY SKIN
The excess production of sebum can result in oily skin. Eating oily foods and hormonal imbalances can lead to excess sebum production. People with oily skin have large pores and blemishes and are prone to acne.
COMBINATION SKIN TYPE
People with a combination skin type have a mix of dry and oily skin. They have an oily T-zone, large pores, and normal to dry cheeks.
HOW TO CHECK?
Wash your face with a gentle cleanser, and after an hour, press your face with a blotting sheet. The amount of oil absorbed by the skin will determine your skin type.
RESULTS
Excess oil on the sheet means you have oily skin. No oil reflects dry skin. Oil in just your T-zone area means you have a combination skin type. Minimal oil means normal skin.
