First aid during head injury is essential as it prevents unforeseen damage and can even save a life if the injury is critical. Dr Bhupesh Kumar, Neurologist at Neuro & Pain Care Clinic explains the first aid you can give in case of head injury.
Firmly Press The Wound
Stop any blood by firmly pressing a clean cloth around the injury, and wash your hands before handling the area to avoid infection.
Make The Person Stable
Make sure the person's head is secure and not moving and if there is continuous bleeding, apply layers of fabric to the wounded area to soak up the blood.
Don't Crowd The Patient
Make sure the patient has an adequate airway and that he or she is not crowded.
Keep The Spine Protected
If the patient is vomiting, gently shift the torso to one side. This procedure protects the vertebrae.
Apply Ice
Apply cold compresses to the affected regions by covering the ice in a towel so it does not directly touch the skin.
Conclusion
If the patient has been in an accident and has suffered a serious head injury, urgent medical attention is needed.
