Ingredients
One-fourth cup of onions, one-fourth cup of pearl onions, one teaspoon of chana dal, one teaspoon of urad dal, garlic, 4-5 red chillies, one teaspoon of chopped garlic, one-fourth teaspoon tamarind, half a cup of tomatoes, mustard seeds, curry leaves, two tablespoons of sesame oil, and half a cup of water.
Saute lentils
Take a pan and heat sesame oil in it. Add urad dal, chana dal, and onions. Saute them on a low heat until golden brown.
Add seasonings
Add red chillies, tomatoes, salt, garlic, and tamarind. Saute them again until the chillies change colour.
Grind chutney
Add the sauteed spices to the mixer with half a cup of water. Grind it into a smooth, creamy paste.
Prepare to temper
Heat oil in a pan; add mustard seeds, curry leaves, and hing. Heat them until they start to sputter.
Serve
Add the prepared tempering to the chutney and mix it well. Serve the chutney as a side with dosa, idli, and uttapam.
