Ingredients
Four red onions, ten dried red chillies, two tbsp oil, half tbsp urad dal, half tbsp chana dal, one tsp cumin, one-fourth tsp methi, ten cloves half tsp salt, small ball-sized tamarind.
Roast the Spices
In a pan heat oil. Roast dried red chillies, urad dal, chana dal, cumin, and methi seeds until golden brown.
Stir the Onions
Meanwhile, prepare the mixture, and add the finely chopped red onions. Mix until they are soft and slightly browned.
Add Tamarind
Once ready, add a golf ball-sized dollop of tamarind and some water. Add a couple of minutes for the flavour to blend in.
Grind the Mixture
Let it cool down a bit. Afterwards, grind it into a smooth paste, adding a little water as required.
Season and Serve
Add salt to taste. Garnish it with coriander leaves and serve with dosa, idli, or rice. Enjoy the delicious chutney!
