Gujarati fafda is a crunchy and spicy snack made from besan and spices. It is paired with green chilli pickle and served for breakfast or lunch. Tap to read the easy recipe to make authentic Gujarati fafda.

Ingredients

For this you require one cup of besan, one-fourth teaspoon of baking soda, two tablespoons of oil, 8-10 black pepper, one-fourth teaspoon of ajwain, half a teaspoon of turmeric powder, half a cup of water, one-fourth teaspoon of red chilli powder, and salt to taste.

Mix spices

Take a bowl and add baking soda, black pepper, ajwain, salt, red chilli powder, turmeric powder, baking soda. Mix it well.

Preapre dough

Now, add the spice mix to besan and knead a soft dough by adding water. Grease the dough with oil and cover it with a muslin cloth. Let it rest for 15-20 minutes.

Roll portions

Divide the dough into different small portions. Press with palms and flatten each portion into thin strips.

Heat oil

Take a deep pan and add oil to it. Heat oil for sometime on a medium flame until it starts making small bubbles.

Fry fafda

Now, slowly drop each portion into the pan. Fry them until golden brown and crisp from both sides.

Drain and serve

Place the fried fafda on paper towels to drain excess oil. Serve the fafda hot with chutney and green chillies.
