It’s common for toddlers to wake up crying at night, leaving parents confused. Several developmental and physical factors may be behind the sudden nighttime distress in 2–to 3-year-old children. Tap to read!
Separation Anxiety
When an infant is lonely for her mother, she cries without warning or wakes frequently during the night.
Sleep Regressions
Any developmental milestone, birth of a new baby, among many others, can temporarily disrupt your child's sleep schedule until your child feels agitated or cries in the middle of the night.
Nightmares or Night Terrors
Using imagination gets some stimuli at this time, so children could be frightened by nightmares or night terror episodes to awaken suddenly with cries in the middle of the night.
Teething
This is a period in which the first molars tend to erupt, causing discomfort or pain. It would interfere with sleep and subsequently cause crying at night.
Hunger
The child grows so fast that they need a lot of energy. If meals are not filling, the hungry toddler will cry for food during the night.
