What is asthma?

Asthma is basically a disease, where the patient suffers inflammation of lungs airways. Now, the fact is that there is no such diet that can treat asthma. Yes, there is no special diet that can assure you sure shot asthma treatments. The idea of having a diet plan for asthma is about having a planned list of foods that do not aggravate the inflammation of lungs further, foods that do not trigger asthma symptoms and that can ease the inflammation either short term or long term, though chances of getting relief from asthma symptoms with just a diet plan is a rare occurrence.

Yes, indeed a good diet is an important aspect for your overall asthma treatment and other health issues. Just like exercise or other habits that promote good health is important. People, who are obese, are at a higher risk of having asthma symptoms frequently, so a diet for weight loss will ultimately become a diet plan for asthma. And also, there are certain foods that might aggravate asthma. Yes, certain foods can act as allergens and can trigger asthma symptoms and you must avoid them at any cost because at first certain foods are just allergens but later can take asthma to a severe level.

So, to be very precise, there is no specific diet for asthma but some precautions while choosing what to eat and what not to eat.

What is the diet plan that patients of asthma must follow?


  • Must eat fruits and vegetables but make sure that none of the fruits or vegetables that you choose to eat is allergens.
  • Foods that are rich in omega-3 fatty acids found in fish like, tune and salmon.
  • Do not eat trans-fat and omega-6 fatty acids.
  • Do not eat foods high on calories.
