A Guide to Getting Pregnant

The joy of having a baby and becoming a mother form a significant part of every woman’s dreams. However, our past-paced lives may often impede such dreams and getting pregnant may require some effort. There are certain procedures that can be adopted by a couple planning to have a baby to make their chances of conception more fruitful. From timing intercourse to taking prenatal vitamins, here is a guide on getting pregnant fast and easy.

How to get pregnant

Time Menstrual Cycle

One of the most important steps to conceive fast involves timing the menstrual cycle. Women, who have regular monthly menstrual cycles, following every 28 days, can easily figure out their ovulation date by counting 14 days from the first day of the period. Ovulation calendar as well as an ovulation calculator can help calculating the exact ovulation date.

Observe your Fertility Signs

During your fertile phase, usually three to five days before ovulation, a woman’s cervical position is soft, high, open and wet. On the other hand, cervix is relatively firm, low and closed during non-fertile days.

Chart your BBT (basal body temperature)

Basal body temperature increases when a woman is most fertile. Charting has helped many women conceive the second time with minimum of fuss.

Age also Matters

Fertility of a woman decreases after reaching 30. Chances of a woman having a healthy pregnancy and safe childbirth drop significantly after 30. She becomes more prone to pregnancy and childbirth complications, such as gestational diabetes and premature delivery. The age factor applies to men as well, as with increasing age their sperm count goes down.

The Right Position

Ensure a desirable position during sexual intercourse to get pregnant fast and easy. A woman should avoid being on top of the partner or in a standing position as the sperm is likely to flow out of the vagina. Besides, do not use of scented tampons, vaginal sprays and artificial lubricants. This is because they can cause infections and remove cervical mucus. After sexual intercourse, place the hip region on a raised platform like a pillow for five to ten minutes to increase the possibilities of getting pregnant.

Hold the Sperm for Longer

After intercourse, a woman should keep lying on her back for at least 15-20 minutes. Better if she raises her lower back with a pillow placed under her hips. The slight upwards tilt of pelvis helps to keep the sperm stay in for longer. Talking to a gynaecologist would help you further to conceive without much delay.

Texture and Volume of Cervical Mucus

When a woman is ovulating, the cervical mucus would be high in texture and volume. If the mucus is clear, slippery and thick, the woman is most fertile.

Follow a Healthy Lifestyle

Women who look forward to getting pregnant should follow healthy lifestyle habits in order to heighten the possibilities of conception. A balanced diet helps both men and women to manage the production of hormones. An imbalance in dietary practices can mar the man’s ability to produce fertile sperms and similarly, lead to a rise in oestrogen levels in women. Such hormonal imbalance may diminish the chances of the woman conceiving considerably.

Reduce Stress

It is important for both the partners to avoid stress while they are planning a baby. Stress can lead to hormonal changes in both men and women.

Folic Acid

Folic acid (B vitamin) intake by women heightens the chances of conception. Naturally, folic acid can be liberally found in green leafy vegetables such as spinach, broccoli and asparagus. Beetroot is another natural source of folic acid. In addition, folic supplements can also be taken. However, it is always better to consult your doctor before you start taking any supplement.

Seek Expert Advice

You must be doing something wrong; seek medical help to get on the right direction. Schedule an appointment with your gynecologist and get checked for hormone levels and any other conditions. Doctor can help you outline a course of action for getting pregnant. Blood tests and pap smear results should be normal, otherwise getting pregnant might require the help of a doctor.

In addition to following the aforementioned tips, women who seek to get pregnant fast and easy should quit unhealthy lifestyle practices such as smoking, drugs and alcohol.
