These arteries dilate and are filled with blood in response to sexual stimulation which results in erection.
Hypertension or high blood pressure damages the arteries which the body then repairs. Repeated episodes of damage and healing cause the arteries to become thicker, to resist further damage. However these thicker arteries fail to respond as fast, or as completely, to demands for extra blood in response to sexual stimulation and thus lead to erectile dysfunction.
