5 Yoga Asanas for Healthy Lungs by Grandmaster Akshar

The coronavirus pandemic has taught us many important lessons one of which is the importance of hygiene and lung health. If your lungs are fine, you are at a lower risk of catching any respiratory illness. Lungs are vital organs and we must take utmost care of them. Apart from eating a healthy diet and preventing smoking & alcohol, we must also practice exercises to improve breathing that helps in bettering lung functions. If you don’t know what exercises to do for your lungs, watch this video where Yoga expert Grandmaster Akshar is telling five Yoga asanas for improving lung capacity. Here is a brief of all the exercises:

Mountain Pose or Parvatasana

  • Place your hands on the mat
  • Close your feet and knees together
  • Tuck your toes in and lift knees off the mat
  • Hold this position for 20 seconds.
  • Repeat this three times.

Downward Facing Dog Pose or Adho Mukho Shvanasana

  • Come onto your fours
  • Keep your feet apart
  • Place your heels firmly on the mat
  • Form an inverted V-shape with the body
  • Hold this position for 20 seconds
  • Repeat this 3 times

Cobra Pose or Bhujangasana

  • Lie down on your stomach
  • Keep your legs close to each other
  • Place palms directly under your shoulders
  • Inhale to lift your chest off the floor
  • Exhale and gently come down
  • Repeat this 3 times

Kneeling Backbend or Savitriasana

  • Gently drop your knees down
  • Life both arms upward
  • Slowly push your hands on the back
  • Slowly come out of the position
  • Repeat this 3 times

Camel Pose or Ustrasana

  • Put your hands on your heels
  • Inhale and arch your back
  • Draw in your tail-bone towards the pubis
  • Exhale and come back to initial pose
  • Repeat this 3 times
