Polio diseass, also called poliomyelitis or infantile paralysis is a disease that has severely affected many nations. Although polio has been completely eradicated from most countries of the world, still some cases continue to crop up every year. It is an infectious disease that is spread by Poliovirus. The symptoms of polio can be acute to normal and usually lead to paralysis in the legs. Poliovirus enters the body via the mouth and affects the intestines. This can lead to paralysis within hours after the virus enters the body.
Despite awareness, polio continues to exits in several parts of India. On this World Polio Day, Deepak Kapur, Chairman, The Rotary International's (INPPC), talks about the current statistics of polio in India, the need for proper treatment and the importance of vaccination and immunisation to keep the generation safe from polio.
