Onlymyhealth Editorial Team, Date:2010-06-29
The lifestyle modifications that must go into reducing the risk of gestational diabetes is same as those needed to reduce the risk of any type of diabetes. Dr Amrbish Mithal. Chairman, Department of Endocrinology & Diabetes, Medanta Medicity, suggests a few lifestyle modifications in gestational diabetes. He suggests that a woman with gestational diabetes must eat healthy i.e. include a diet with less of fried foods, more of fruits and vegetables, less of carbohydrates etc and exercise at least three hours per week. Optimising the body weight when you are on the verge of planning a family while being at a high risk of acquiring gestational diabetes is highly effective in reducing the risks of the disease.
