Gestational diabetes is referred to as a condition when a woman gets diabetic during pregnancy. This is quite common and most women become diabetes-free after delivery but in some cases, they may remain diabetic or get diabetes again in the future. This is why they are advised to exercise measures to prevent gestational diabetes. They must consult their gynaecologist about different ways to prevent gestational diabetes. Pregnancy-induced diabetes can happen either before pregnancy or during pregnancy. Universal screening helps in identifying the risks and preventing potential mothers from getting diabetic. There are certain risk factors of gestational diabetes that can be prevented beforehand. These are

  • Obesity
  • Family history of diabetes
  • High BP or hypertension
  • PCOS or Polycystic Ovary Syndrome

It is very important to screen gestational diabetes in the early months of pregnancy as it averts its effects on both mother and the baby. Not only the mother but the unborn baby also gets at risk of developing diabetes. The pregnant woman may suffer a miscarriage, pre-term delivery, and other complications due to gestational diabetes.
