Gestational diabetes Among Indian Women

The risk of developing Diabetes in India of whatever type is high and therefore, the risk of developing gestational diabetes is as high as any other. Dr Amrbish Mithal, Chairman, Department of endocrinology & diabetes, Mendanta Medicity, Gurgaon, says that about 7 to 15 percent of Indian women have been found to have gestational diabetes. Women, who are overweight, have a family history of diabetes, have had a bad obstetric history, older women ( i.e. women who are 35+ at the time of pregnancy) etc are more prone to gestational diabetes than others. India has a huge population of women, who fall under the category of those, who have a higher risk of getting gestational diabetes.
