As the winter season witnesses cold temperatures, several illnesses begin to attack our bodies. Cough, cold, sinus, and many other infections start to arise but that is more challenging for newborns and infants as their immune system is still not developed to fight these infections and diseases. They are more prone to winter illnesses. Thus, it becomes parents' responsibility to take good care of them and prevent the risk of illnesses. Here are some important points explained by Dr. Rahul Nagpal, Director- Pediatrics and Neonatology at Fortis Hospital, Vasant Kunj.
Should the baby be bathed daily?
According to Dr. Nagpal, the idea is to keep the baby clean. If you can keep the baby clean without bathing, it is okay not to make him bathe. Sponging, using a wet cloth to clean the baby are some ways. Also, bathe the baby in mid-afternoon when the temperature is comparatively warmer.
How to dress the baby in winters?
Do not lade your baby with winter clothes. They may feel suffocated instead of feeling warm. Instead, you keep them close to you to provide body heat. This way, they would neither feel cold nor overloaded with clothes. Always make them wear cotton cloth inside and then woolen. Cover their hands, head and feet when you take them out.
