Diet plays a substantial role in pregnancy because it directly impacts the health of foetus in womb and mother. This video talks about expert advice to know what nourishing diet is required for pregnant women. Dietitian and Diabetes Educator Dr Swati Bathwal says, “Firstly they should consume Folic acid in diet as it is vital for the brain development of a child. It protects the child from ural tube defect. Daily 1 milligram of folic acid is necessary in which ½ milligram should be consumed in the form of tablet. Spinach, broccoli, pea, green vegetables and orange are also enriched with Folic acid.
Dr Bathwal adds, “Protein rich food such as dal, chole, rajma, sprouted moong, chicken, eggs, Spinach and green vegetables are very important. It is crucial for the growth of both mother and child. Calcium is mandatory for the child. Calcium prepares stronger teeth and bones of a child as well as it is important for the nerve system and muscles. Til, green vegetables, broccoli, milk, panner and yogurt etc are enriched with protein.”
She also stressed on the need of Vitamin D in the body, for which she suggests to sit in the sun for 15 minutes before 9 am because lack of vitamin D can decrease the capacity of absorbing calcium in body. Omega 3 is important for development of the child. You get omega 3 from eating seafood. If you are vegetarian then you can consume walnut, chia seed and Alsi.
