Studies all around the world show that happy person enjoys a better overall health than a person who is hung up emotionally. Not only this, emotional stress can have manifestation on physical health as well. A number of physical ailments can be attributed to emotional instability and stress.
Sleep Disturbance

Most of the repair work in our body takes place while we are asleep. A sound sleep is necessary for good health. However, it is difficult to enjoy a good night's sleep when your mind is not at rest. Lack of sleep, in turn, can raise your stress levels.
Digestive Disorders
Stomach ache and other digestive orders can affect a person who is upset emotionally. Continued emotional stress can initiate or worsen problems like lack of appetite and a host of other digestive problems such as esophageal reflux or even IBS (Irritable Bowel Syndrome).
High Blood Pressure

When you are emotionally upset, stress levels increase, which have a direct impact on the blood pressure.
Anxiety
Bottled up emotions can make a person feel overwhelmed. Repressed feelings especially negative emotions lead to anxiety.

People suffering from emotional problems or depression often suffer from this problem. Panic attack is a sudden feeling of fear and/or despair, which is brought on by the negative emotions.
Hormonal Imbalance

Constant feeling of hopelessness and despair leads to hormonal imbalance in the body. These hormonal imbalances, in long run, can deplete the chemicals which are associated with the feeling of happiness.
Weakened Immune System

Constant worrying and inability to relax also takes a toll on the immune system of the body. Due to this reason, a person who is stressed emotionally might experience frequent colds and other infections.
Lack of Energy

Loss of appetite, irritability and other problems caused by emotional hang ups can ultimately lead to lack of energy in the day to day life. Therefore it is better to avoid emotional hang-ups to escape such problems.
