Do you know?

Homemade beauty treatments are what most women prefer these days because of the tremendous amount of chemicals that commercial products come packed in. But, how far have you really gone to see if the home remedy that you so dearly love really does work wonders for you or say, does not harm you at all? To make sure that the home remedy you are going to try tonight works for your benefit, keep these things in before using the home remedy. Image Source: Getty Images
Check Ingredient Compatibility

It is integral that you check the compatibility of the ingredients. Dot not mix lemon and milk just because someone on the internet says the concoction is amazing. Always check whether the ingredient you are going to put in your homemade remedy is not too acidic on your skin and that it is all right when used in combination with other ingredients. Always use Clean Drinking Water

A lot of DIY beauty treatments treat water as an important ingredient. You must, however, not assume that the water from your kitchen or bathroom sink is all you need. Water that is unfiltered or taken directly from the tap has lots of germs as well as bacteria that can cause damage to the skin by triggering irritation or appearance of breakouts. While it is important and much safer to make your own shampoo, facial or cleanser, it is also important to ensure that the water you use is clean and filtered. Image source: Getty Images
Clean or Sanitise all the Items used

There are a couple of things used to make homemade treatments for beauty. It is therefore, integral to ensure that these products are sanitised before and after they are used. For instance, the container that you use to mix the ingredients should be well-washed and sanitised. If you are making your own shampoo, ensure that you clean the old shampoo bottle well before refilling it with what you make. If you are using glass jars, sterilise them by boiling them in water for about three to five minutes. Image source: Getty Images
Check Product Sensitivity before Application

It would be disastrous to apply the homemade beauty product directly on your skin i.e. without testing it. Allergic reaction is natural and in fact, common, to occur even if one does not suffer from sensitive skin. Before you apply it directly on your skin, make sure a drop of the homemade product is tested on a small area of your skin. If there is an allergic reaction, avoid using the product further. Common allergic reactions include rash, itching, redness and inflammation. Image source: Getty Images
Ensure that Preservatives are used Cautiously

Mild preservatives such as vinegar, sugar, ascorbic acid and salt must be used realistically and as sparingly as possible. Do not expect your homemade beauty product to not get spoilt if you add a cup of vinegar to it. So, the best thing to do would be to avoid preparing beauty products for a long time; instead, prepare them on a weekly basis. Preservatives are especially used when you use fruit and vegetable extracts to prepare the product. Image source: Getty Images
Think about Storage

Yes, preservatives help you use your product for a longer time, but there is that one single thing that will keep the products more viable and help you store it for a really long duration and that is refrigeration. When you use fresh vegetables or fruits, it is important to make sure that they are refrigerated. Make sure that you dispose the product off when it has begun to lose its texture and has started to smell bad. Image source: Getty Images
Are the Products Allergy-free?

Natural products that go into the production of a beauty product tend to have more allergens that you may ever know. These allergens cause the face to swell and break out. If you know that you are allergic to a certain ingredient, avoid using it in your product. Some common allergens include tropical fruits, strawberries, essential oils and nuts. Always test the ingredients before using them directly on a larger area of your skin. Image source: Getty Images
