    A 5 year old girl is aging 8 times faster than normal

    Lucy Parke, a brave 5 year old, is suffering from incredibly rare premature aging condition, Hutchinson Gilford Progeria, commonly known as Progeria. This rare condition causes her to age eight times faster than normal people.     Her diagnosis

    Lucy was diagnosed with Progeria when she was just 9 months old. She was born normally on November 10, 2009, but she had to undergo a hip operation when she was just four months old. She had contractions of her knees and ankles. Her parents were worried as she was a poor feeder and was not putting on much weight. It was at nine months of age when she was diagnosed with Progeria.     What Lucy will go through

    Like any other child of her age Lucy likes to talk and sing, but unlike other children she has growth failure, loss of body fat, hair loss and a poor appetite. From an early age,  Lucy will have arthritis, heart problems, kidney failure, loss of eyesight, hair loss, cardiovascular problems and muscular-skeletal degeneration which will contribute to a shorter life.     Progeria has no cure

    Sadly, there is no cure for this extremely rare condition, only a few people with this condition lived till the age of 13. However, treatments are done to reduce the complications such as heart attack or stroke. It has been reported that at least 90 percent of people with Progeria. Image source:
