Shaving can be quick and easy but it may not feel so good post-shave. A little know-how about shaving and your skin can make it a lot better experience and bring you amazing results. Men have thicker skin on their face, so shaving needs special care. Here are some shaving tips to help you get a clean shave without much hassle.

Prepare your Skin

A quick shave may come in handy at times, but it can be torturous for the skin. Since men have thicker skin, it is necessary to spend some time preparing the skin for the shave. Wash your face with a facial cleanser. It will moisten the skin and soften the hair. That’s why they say that the best time to shave is right after a shower. Meanwhile, rinse the shaving brush in warm water, squeeze the head of the brush gently and flick it a few times to get rid of excess water.

Soften the Hair

Use your shaving brush to lather the hair with a branded shaving cream or gel and leave it on for at least a minute. It will soften the hair further. Use a shaving brush to create more lather. Applying cream with just your hands may not be that effective.

Now it’s time to pick your razor. You can use a multi-blade razor if you wish, though a single blade razor works just fine. Make sure the blade is sharp. For best results, change your blade every week.  You may also use straight razors, though they are harder to handle. Besides, they can even hurt you while you are shaving.

Time to Shave

Start shaving in the direction of the hair growth. Shaving against the grain could result in more stubble and razor burn. Pay special attention while shaving your neck as the skin is thinner around the neck. Shave with slow and smooth swipes.

Rinse

Rinse the razor blade after every swipe. It will wash away all the debris and allow your next swipe to be as gentle and flat as the initial one. Also, rinse the shaving brush thoroughly for your next lather.

After-Shave

Once you have finished your shave, rinse your face and apply a moisturising gel or an after shave lotion to sooth and protect the facial skin. If you plan to go out right after your shave, you may also apply SPF on the face.
