Where it is found in India?

Recently found in Jharkhand, India but cases are also been reported in Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh, Rajasthan, and Andhra Pradesh. On 8 February 2025 birds were culled, the area sanitized and surveillance expanded within notified zones.

Causes of bird flu

This is caused by the avian influenza A virus. It spreads through contact with infected birds, contaminated surfaces and contaminated air.

Avoid contact with wild birds, pets, or contaminated surfaces. You should wear PPE when handling potentially contaminated areas or water sources.

You are advised to consume cooked poultry, eggs, and other foods that can be eaten. They are safe to eat during a bird flu outbreak if proper food-handling practices are followed.
