
Dehydration is a condition of not enough fluid in the body. This makes body to lose its ability to function normally and then begins to produce symptoms related to the fluid loss.
Dehydration is broadly classified into three stages - mild, moderate and severe. Mild and often even moderate dehydration can be reversed by oral intake of fluids that contain electrolytes (or salts) that are lost during activity. If unrecognized and untreated, severe dehydration can be fatal. The following home remedies can help with mild to moderate dehydration.
Buttermilk or Chaas
Buttermilk is prepared with salt, water, curd, and spices. Loaded with electrolytes (calcium, potassium and zinc) and lots of water, chaas helps fight dehydration. With the sun beating you down during summers, buttermilk helps in maintaining the fluid content of the body. Moreover, buttermilk keeps your heart healthy as it contains less amount of fat.
Water
There can't be a better way to prevent and recover from dehydration is to drink plenty of water. Those who are at risk of dehydration (like athletes and diabetics) should drink a at least 2 litres of water every day.
Watery Fruits and Vegetables
Fruits with high water contentsuch as strawberries and watermelon can help with mild to moderate dehydration. To regularize electrolyte levels of the body, you can add a pinch of salt and sugar to the fruit juice. Cucumber and tomato are among watery vegetables that can be fed to a patient exhibiting the initial symptoms of dehydration, to regularize his or her body fluid levels.
