Types Of Metabolic Surgery

Gastric bypass

Gastric bypass is a permanent process. The top of the stomach is separated from the other organs by the help of staples. After surgery the pouch can hold about an ounce of food.

The pouch and lower part of the small intestine which is cut by the surgeon are attached.

Vertical sleeve gastrectomy

This surgery is sometimes also called stomach stapling. It functions by surgically eliminating around 80% of the stomach, leaving behind a long pouch. Rerouting of intestine is not necessary in this process.

Laparoscopic adjustable gastric banding

Small icisions in the abdomen are made by the surgeon. A tube with a camera called laproscope is then inserted through the incisions and a band on the upper part of the stomach is also attached.
