Most of us have a very set way of looking at the idea of insurance. While yes, there is a sense of financial security that the concept of insurance provides, for a layman – insurance can mean so much more especially with regard to his/her health and wellness.

While many of us may or may not have some form of medical/accidental insurance, it’s equally important for us to secure our family and our health by doing as much as we can on a personal level. One of the most important ways in which we can insure our body is by leading a healthier and fitter lifestyle. As we celebrate National Insurance Awareness day, let’s look within, and do as much as we can to insure our health naturally by eating right, staying fit, and taking all the necessary steps. Insure your family and your health by simply making these lifestyle adjustments today.

Eat nutrient-packed food every day

Good nutrition is a vital part of leading a healthy lifestyle. Eating well planned, and healthy meals and snacks can help in reducing the risk of various lifestyle diseases like high blood pressure, high cholesterol, type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular diseases. A good way to ensure this is to include nutrient-rich foods like almonds, green leafy and other coloured vegetables, eggs, fish, whole grains, pulses and dairy to your daily diet.

Almonds, for example, make for a nutritious and healthy addition, especially due to the bouquet of health benefits they offer. Almonds are a source of 15 nutrients such as vitamin E, magnesium, protein, riboflavin, zinc etc. In addition to this, a study published in the New England Journal of Medicine showed that people who ate nuts such as almonds, at least seven times per week had a 20 percent lower all-cause mortality rate (death from any cause) compared to those who did not eat nuts. By adding more nutrient rich foods like almonds into the diet and food habits, you will in turn insure your body’s overall health!

Keep a check on your weight

Being overweight can have a serious impact on your health. People who are overweight, are at an increased risk for many serious health consequences such as cardiovascular diseases, type 2 diabetes, osteoarthritis and cancer. To keep a check on your weight, make sure to add at least 30 minutes of exercise to your daily routine. This could be anything that you choose – walking, stair climbing, skipping, a quick jog, yoga, dancing or time spent in your home gym – but be sure to follow it religiously. Additionally, supplement your exercise routine, with mindful and healthy snacking.
