First trimester pregnancy symptoms - There are a lot going on in the first trimester as the baby begins to develop and pregnant body experiences some major changes.

Motherhood is the most joyous experience. In the first few days of pregnancy, a woman may not look pregnant by appearance but can feel it, due to a surge of pregnancy hormones. Hormonal changes affect almost every organ system.

The pregnant body experiences some major changes when the baby begins to develop. Hormones trigger a woman's body to begin nourishing the baby, which starts even before the pregnancy is confirmed. Foetal development during the first trimester is the most active. The first stage or trimester of pregnancy starts from 1st until the 14th week. 

Week 1 pregnancy symptoms

Excessive gas, uneasiness, anxiety, nausea and constipation are some symptoms of pregnancy week 1. There are no observable physical changes in this week as even the pregnancy is not confirmed yet in most cases.

Week 2 pregnancy symptoms

Missing a period is the most noticeable sign to be alarmed about being pregnant. Morning sickness, nausea, tenderness in the breasts and are some symptoms that may or may not be noticed in this week. This is because pregnancy is in its very early stage.

Week 3 pregnancy symptoms

Morning sickness, loss of weight, vaginal discharge and uneasiness can be experienced in the third week of pregnancy. You would have missed a period and gone to your doctor for confirming pregnancy and getting a foetal exam done if found positive.

Week 4 pregnancy symptoms

Extremes of emotions such as elation and nervousness are common at this stage of pregnancy. Abdominal cramps, unusual smells, fatigue and morning sickness are some symptoms but some women may not experience any of them.

Week 5 pregnancy symptoms

The common discomforts associated with pregnancy are felt even more in this week. Fatigue, sore breasts, frequent urination, feelings of nausea and a tingling feeling in the body can be experienced. Hormonal changes of the body can cause cramping or bleeding problems. Nothing to panic as these are only expected.

Week 6 pregnancy symptoms

Fatigue, morning sickness, nausea and pelvic discomfort are already experienced and they continue. Women can tend to have extreme mood swings – very joyful one day and as sad the next day. Heightened sense of smell is also common at this stage and women start to crave for a particular food.

Week 7 pregnancy symptoms

Weight gain due to pregnancy is more noticeable in this week for some women. Headaches, nausea, frequent urination, indigestion and constipation can also result in this week. First trimester week-by- week pregnancy symptoms would be more observable from now onwards.

Week 8 pregnancy symptoms

Breast size increases leading to dark veins around it, lower abdominal pain is common, feelings of contractions in uterus and sciatica pain are possible. Your morning sickness may end by this time.

Week 9 pregnancy symptoms

Weight gain, lack of sex drive, gastrointestinal problems, spotting and bodily discomfort due to growing baby are expected in pregnancy week 9.

Week 10 pregnancy symptoms

Steady weight gain, cravings for certain foods, enhanced sensitivity to smell, nausea, swelling of breasts, feeling fatigued are some common symptoms expected in this stage of pregnancy. 

Week 11 pregnancy symptoms

Belly bump may start to show, morning sickness and nausea are over, slight rise of body temperature and dehydration and changes in the pigment of your fingernails or toenails can be experienced in this stage of pregnancy.

Week 12 pregnancy symptoms

Feelings of fatigue can get over, the weight gain is around 2 to 3 pounds, changes in skin colour and freckles or brown spots are visible and increased acidity and heartburns are common complaints during this week.

Week 13 pregnancy symptoms

In this week, Broadening of waistline, pain in abdomen due to stretch of uterus ligaments, pain in abdomen when changing positions, possibility of disorder called incompetent cervix and the growth of breast size is common.

Week 14 pregnancy symptoms

In the 14th week of pregnancy, the symptoms are extreme mood swings, expanding waistline, possibility of milk discharge from breast and increase in appetite.

The pregnancy week by week symptoms differ from women to women and lot of variations are possible.
