Are you aware about the plenty of nourishing options available in oils around you? Do you know there are some essential winter oils specially meant to be used during harsh winter conditions?
Lavender, Sandalwood, Cedar wood, Avocado, borage, myrrh, rosewood, and frankincense essential oils are known to contain properties that naturally nourish the skin to maintain its health. Main carrier oils that take care of skin in winters include Jojoba oil, extra virgin olive oil, avocado oil and sweet almond oil.
"For skin wrinkles and the dullness that results in patching and unhealthy skin, jojoba can heal the skin and make it look stunning. Also, sweet almond oil provides incredible skin nourishment in winters. The oil is too strong to be used during summers. Just a drop of sweet almond oil, rubbed between hands and applied to face by patting provides amazing results," says Dr. Naresh Arora, director of an Aroma clinic.
Ahley Turner, a registered Yoga teacher asks to try adding these 3 essential oils to your skin care routine to rejuvenate and refresh your skin this winter season:
1. Lavender – This favourite essential oil has so many uses – and skin care is one of them! It is known for treating psoriasis and reduces marks from burns, scars and stretch marks. Lavender can be applied topically by applying 2 – 3 drops directly to the affected area.
2. Sandalwood – Sandalwood is excellent for soothing, firming and softening skin and is antiviral, so effective for scars, wrinkles and acne. Apply 2 – 3 drops topically, but if your skin is sensitive be sure to dilute this essential oil in sesame, coconut or olive oil before applying to skin.
3. Cedar wood – Known for its moisturizing and softening abilities, Cedarwood is perfect for soothing skin in the winter and is a non-drying oil, so can be used on either dry or oily skin. The antibacterial properties of this essential oil make it helpful for acne prone skin. Cedar wood can be applied topically, but should also be diluted for very sensitive skin.
All the essential oils are to be used as a lotion on the body. They must be used carefully. About 4-6 drops is enough. It depends upon you what time you must apply the same. It can be used after a warm bath which also protects and moisturizes the skin and also during night to provide nourishment all night.
There are different therapeutic properties found in various essential oils though, which require one to be more careful in choosing the type of oil to use that will ensure it produces the desired impact on the body.
