Tooth sensitivity is a dental condition characterised by sharp, sudden but temporary pain.
Tooth sensitivity can happen to anyone, and there are no specific at-risk groups for this dental problem. The pain shooting into the tooth's nerve endings when exposed to air, cold, sweet, acidic or hot foods is the symptom of tooth sensitivity.
There are many types of treatments available for tooth sensitivity. Here are some of the most effective at-home treatments that will help you deal with this condition.
Damage to the enamel can soon make tooth sensitive and cause pain. Excess saliva or low saliva production in your mouth in such scenario can aggravate the sensitivity problem. Use baking soda for hardening the tooth back to normalcy and desensitizing it. Add half a spoonful of baking soda to a glass of water. Rinse your mouth with this water.
A fluoride rinse is another thing that you can do to manage sensitive teeth. If your teeth are sensitive to hot or cold temperature, make sure you do fluoride rinse every time you eat acidic and sugary foods. Moreover, you should also rinse your mouth with a fluoride rinse after brushing your teeth.
Chewing gum can help you manage sensitive teeth. When you chew a sugarless gum, it improves the production of saliva and hardens the softened teeth. Make sure you use a sugar coated chewing gum to protect your teeth from further damage and you don’t chew too hard.
Clove oil for toothache has been used as part of Indian system of medicine for many centuries. Owing to its antibacterial and antifungal properties, it can directly be applied to the teeth to reduce teeth sensitivity. There is an alternate way; add clove oil to warm water and use it as mouth rinse.
Aloe vera is used as an ingredient in many oral care products such as toothpastes and mouthwashes. You may rub aloe vera gel on the teeth to control the growth of bacteria which trigger teeth sensitivity. You may also gargle with aloe vera juice to manage tooth sensitivity.
If the above mentioned remedies don’t help your tooth sensitivity, see a dentist to discuss the possible solutions.
