Penile cancer is a condition in which the cancer cells develop in the tissues of the member. The member is a rod shaped male reproductive organ containing two types of erectile tissues passes sperm and urine from the body. The erectile tissue is covered with a connective tissue and skin. The head of the member is covered with loose foreskin.

The common signs and symptoms of Penile cancer include:

  • sores
  • Discharge
  • Bleeding


A risk factor is anything which can affect or increase the chances of getting a certain condition. Human papillomavirus infection may increase the risk of developing penile cancer. Human papillomavirus is a group of more than 100 related viruses.

Risk factors for penile cancer include :

Circumcision : it may help prevent infection with the human papillomavirus. Circumcision is done to remove part or all the foreskin from the member. Many kids are circumcised just after the birth. Thus men who were not circumcised at birth have higher chances of getting penile cancer. Other risk factors for penile cancer may include : being older, having poor personal hygiene or having many sexual partners, consumption of tobacco or having phimosis, a condition in which the foreskin of the member cant  be pulled back over the glans.
