In order to evaluate your overall health and detect a wide range of disorders one needs to take the complete blood count or CBC. The health problems detected by it are anemia, infection and leukemia.

This complete blood count test is used to measure the components and features of the human blood which includes, red blood cells that carry oxygen, white blood cells that fight infection, haemoglobin which is the oxygen carrying protein in your red blood cells, hematocrit which is the proportion of red blood cells to the fluid component in blood, and also platelets. When there is an abnormal increase or decrease in the cell counts then you are considered to be suffering from an underlying medical condition which would require further evaluation. A complete blood count reveals a lot about any underlying health issue, and this is why it is very important to get it done.

Your doctor would recommend this test as a routine medical examination. This is done in order to monitor your general health and also to screen for a variety of disorders such as anemia and leukemia.

You might be asked to go through this test so if in case you are experiencing any sort of weakness, fatigue, fever, inflammation, bruising, or even bleeding for that matter. Complete blood count would be good for diagnosing the cause of signs and symptoms that you are experiencing.

Getting diagnosed with a blood disorder that would eventually affect your blood cell counts could mean that you have to get the complete blood count test. This would help your doctor to monitor your health condition.

When you have any health conditions and you are taking medications which in turn are affecting your blood cell counts then you would require a complete blood count test.

For the test your blood sample would be taken by inserting a needle in the vein of your arm. This blood sample would be sent to the lab for analysis. This will not affect your usual activities.

For the test you can eat and drink normally before the test only of it is being tested for a complete blood count. In case if it is being used for additional tests then you would require fasting for a certain period of time before you go for the test. You must follow the instructions given to you by your doctor.
