It often develops from cold or other respiratory infection. Acute bronchitis usually improves within few days but the cough may last for weeks.

Common signs and symptoms of acute bronchitis include

  • Cough
  • Production of mucus
  • Fatigue
  • Shortness of Breathe
  • Slight Fever and chills
  • chest Discomfort

Causes

It occurs due to viruses which are responsible for causing colds and flu.  These viruses can’t be killed by antibiotics thereby it does not work in case of bronchitis. Smoking is the most common cause for chronic bronchitis. Air pollution and other toxic gases in the environment contribute to the condition.

Expected duration of Acute Bronchitis

Usually acute bronchitis improves within a few days. But, if you have repeated bouts of bronchitis, you may have chronic bronchitis. In most cases, the acute bronchitis goes away within five days of treatment. However, the coughing the may continue for little longer like few weeks or even months.
