What are different parenting techniques?

Being a parent is a full time and difficult job. And the most intriguing part is there is no one, sure shot proven and successful way to parent a child. You have to adapt yourself to different situations. But don’t be disheartened because this doesn’t mean parenting is going to be an ordeal. Just try devising a strategy by observing your child’s behavior in order to develop a bond of mutual trust and understanding. Listed below are a few parenting techniques. Take your pick and find out which one suits your parenting style.

  • Permissive Parenting: Some parents allow their children to be involved in decision making that concerns them. This does not make you negligent or uncaring. In fact his approach can help you child become independent and resourceful. But this parenting style can make some children immature as well. So, put your discretion to use. Judge and handle your kid accordingly.
  • Authoritative Parenting: These parents usually set high standards for the child, reason with them and listen to their needs and opinion. They allow the child make some decisions. This allows the child to become independent and self-sufficient.
  • Authoritarian Parenting: These parents set high standards for the child, make a structured life, and expect obedience from the child. They usually do not allow the child make decisions. This style of parenting can make your child a person with low self-esteem.
  • Understanding Parents: These parents allow their child to grow on self-esteem by trying to understand them, taking their strengths, emotions and reactions into account. They work to minimize their weaknesses and develop their child’s strengths.

Your parenting style might be a mix of all of these or one kind in particular. Make sure you’re not smothering your kid with too many expectations. Let them grow but nurture their needs with lot of care and affection.
