Sialadenitis is a condition which occurs when a bacterial infection affects the salivary glands. The infection can occur from the reduced flow of saliva or the blockage or inflammation of a salivary duct. The human mouth keeps flushed with saliva constantly. The main role of saliva is to aid digestion, breaks down food, and keeps the mouth clean.  It also washes away the bacteria and food particles from the mouth. There are three pairs of large salivary glands which are located on each side of the face.
