Depress coupleDelayed ejaculation means a man’s inability to reach orgasm in normal time after penis is inside the vagina. This is not so much a problem of not getting orgasm at all. In most cases, men are able to reach orgasm albeit after taking longer than usual time expected. One of the characteristics of this sex problem is that these men can have an orgasm through masturbation but not when they are having an intercourse.

Delayed ejaculation can be temporary or permanent. It is caused by some chronic health conditions, side-effects of surgeries and medications. If it occurs infrequently, there is no cause for concern as such. Treatment becomes essential only if it occurs too frequently. If this condition begins to cause stress to you and your partner, it is time to see a doctor.

After impotency (erectile dysfunction) and premature ejaculation, delayed ejaculation comes third as the most common male sexual disorder in the USA. According to Dr. David Delvin, GP and family planning specialist, it is very difficult to treat this condition. One of the reasons for this may be that most of the research has been carried out for the first two conditions affecting male sexual health. Dr. Delvin said that the medical literature dealing with delayed ejaculation is “remarkably little” and the pioneering work by Masters and Johnson and another by Helen Kaplan with her associates are notable exceptions.

There are psychological and medical causes of delayed ejaculation. Men who have self-controlling personalities, those with very strict religious upbringing, fears of causing pregnancy, concerns over the hygiene of the vagina or homosexuality can be the cause of delayed ejaculation. The physical problems of delayed ejaculation can be –

  • Overindulgence in alcohol as well as the use of some types of recreational drugs can be the cause of difficulty in ejaculation or delayed ejaculation.
  • Problems in ejaculation can occur in men without any forewarning symptoms after the use of certain medications for treating depression. This problem usually subsides after changing the drugs.
  • Serious injury to the spine can cause problems in achieving ejaculation. In such cases men may achieve ejaculation with some difficulty or use electrical stimulators for the same. Couples desirous of having a baby can use this method for conceiving.

Delayed or retarded ejaculation can be cured with expert help and determination on your part to get rid of the problem. If you are keen on having a baby soon, the way out is artificial insemination or IVF.
