If your child’s night terrors and nightmares are giving you sleepless nights, then you should take notice of what is being said. A recent study has concluded that if children are allowed to watch violent TV shows, they may have problems with sleep and may even develop certain sleep disorders. This is especially true for children who are allowed to watch TV after 7 pm.
For the research that has been conducted by the Children’s Research Institute in Seattle, the lifestyle habits and sleep patterns of about 600 kids aged from 3 to 5 were taken into account. Parents of these kids were told to make note of the sleep disturbances that these children experienced after watching TV. It was noticed that those kids who watched violent TV shows during the day experienced problems while sleeping. The problem was even more enhanced in those children who were found to be glued to the television sets post 7 in the evening.
The real problem that parents face as of now is from the fact the television shows that 3 to 5 year olds end up watching, are actually meant for children who are 7 to 12 years old and are loaded with violent imagery. This results in sleep disruption and if not treated in time can catapult into problems such as obesity and cognitive incapability.
It is advisable to restrict the television time that your child is exposed in a day. Children have a vivid imagination and such violent visuals may end up scarring the little one’s mind.
