Urinary tract infection (UTI) in most women can be diagnosed clinically based on signs and symptoms. Some tests and procedures that are done to diagnose urinary tract infections include urine sample analysis, urine culture, imaging studies (such as ultrasound, CT scan, intravenous urinary pyelogram) and cystoscopy.
Prognosis of UTI in most women is good. Most women respond well to treatment with oral antibiotics. Treatment is usually given for a week to 10 days. Prognosis does not remain so favourable in women, who develop kidney infection, sepsis or other complications.
