In the first three months of pregnancy the growth of uterus presses on the bladder leading to women urinating more than normal. There are other reasons too for frequent urination during pregnancy. Another cause is the overwork of kidneys as it keeps out the junk of the body. The body also needs to retain more fluids in pregnancy leading to increased need for urination throughout the term. This problem subsides in some women after the third month but continues in others throughout.
You might feel like cutting down on your fluid intake so as to avoid urinating frequently. That would not be the right thing to do. Your body needs to be hydrated for your health and that of your baby.You can instead stop taking diuretic fluids. These drinks add to the sense of urgency you feel for urinating. Caffeinated drinks such as coffee, tea and soda drinks should be avoided. In any case, caffeine is not good for any pregnant woman. Another handy tip is to consume most of the fluids during the day to reduce the number of times you go to the bathroom at night.
Except being a nuisance for the pregnant woman, frequent urination during pregnancy is not much to be worried about. Nonetheless, you should guard against the chances of urinary tract infection or gestational diabetes later on by flushing out toxins whenever you feel the urge to. It is not easy to notice the change in urinary habits due to normal pregnancy growth or the complications. Consult with your doctor on the changes. After examination, the doctor can tell and recommend medications or other treatment should there be something that needs attention. If the frequency of urination during pregnancy is due to urinary tract infection, it can cause preterm delivery with low birth weight of the baby.
You can try exercising to keep the endless urges to urinate limited during the term. One such exercise for the pelvic region is called Kegel exercise; these help to strengthen the pelvic floor muscles. It may please be noted that exercising is not a solution to the problem but a way to reduce the bathroom trips. Moreover, Kegel exercises help to strengthen sagging pelvic floor muscles post delivery.
Try to increase fluid intake and exercise at the same time. Women are generally advised to increase fluid intake to guard against dehydration; with exercising you'd sweat out the water than urinate.
