Causes of female orgasmic dysfunction

What could be the probable cause for female orgasmic dysfunction, what is the underlining cause? The truth is that it can be quite difficult to determine the underlying cause of improper climax in women. There could be a host of factors that does not allow them to reach their orgasmic potential. These factors could range from, physical, emotional, or even psychological.

We can list out many causes, these include, older age; medical conditions such as diabetes; a history of gynaecological surgeries such as a hysterectomy; the use of certain medications, particularly selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) for depression; cultural or religious beliefs; embarrassment or shyness; guilt about enjoying sexual activity; history of sexual abuse; mental health conditions, such as depression or anxiety; stress; poor self-esteem; and relationship issues, such as unresolved conflicts or lack of trust.

Now it can also be seen that sometimes, there is a combination of two of more of these factors that lead to orgasmic disorder in women. The inability to reach an orgasm can lead to distress, and can make it even harder to achieve orgasms in the future.

Symptoms female orgasmic dysfunction

Of course the main symptom of orgasmic disorder in women is the lack of orgasm during sexual intercourse. Also if you take longer than usual then this could also be a symptom. There are four types of female orgasmic dysfunction, they are, primary anorgasmia, wherein you never had an orgasm; secondary anorgasmia, wherein you have difficulty reaching it, but have had one before; situational anorgasmia, wherein you can only orgasm in specific situations; and general anorgasmia, wherein you cannot reach an orgasm in any condition even after being highly aroused.

Treatment for female orgasmic dysfunction

FOD treatment basically depends on the condition you have. This is why you might have to treat any underlying medical conditions, leave out anti-depressants, or increase clitoral stimulation.  Also, couples counselling can be of immense help, as sometimes it could be the emotional wavelength, both inside and outside the bedroom that restricts you from reaching your orgasm. A counsellor will help you and your partner work through disagreements or conflicts you may be having.

Some cases hormone therapies are also done, but you should take your doctor’s advice in this regard. The best way to go about any bodily issue is to take professional help.
