You can go period less

Although exercising is great for your overall health but if you are working out way too often, you can go period less. Yes, you can miss your periods if you exercise too much. A condition called “amenorrhea” meaning absence of periods can occur when you work out too much. It may sound like a good thing but missing periods can cause long term health problems.

If you spend too much time on your treadmill or low body weight workouts like ballet and long distance running, you may go through troubles of getting normal periods. Because when you combine low body weight with extensive workout regimen, your body goes into “starvation mode” and starts shutting down systems that are not that essential for survival like reproductive system.

And thus you stop ovulating and getting periods.

Why Amenorrhea is dangerous?

Amenorrhea is dangerous because it can disturb the estrogen levels and cause osteoporosis and brittle bones, which means, if you are working out a lot, you may stop getting periods and then eventually the risk of bone fractures will be higher along with low bone density in coming years.

So, if you wish to maintain the regular period cycle and good bone health, you need to watch your workout routine. All you need to do is maintain your estrogen levels in body.
