The unsightly deposit of fat around the hips is called love handles. Other than spoiling your looks, these fats also increase the risk of visceral fat accumulation around the internal body organs. The commercials that claim to help you lose weight in one particular area of the body should not be taken seriously. Their methods are not safe and the best way to get rid of weight in one area of the body, such as the love handles, is to lose weight throughout the body. You will need to make dietary changes and include an exercise regimen in your daily routine.

Avoid fattening foods

 

Are you fond of onion rings, white flour junks, candy bars, cupcakes, processed meats, potato chips, and chocolate with lot of sugar? You need to replace these with health foods such as vegetables, fruits, greens, low-fat dairy, whole grains and beans. As you get rid of empty calories that the fattening foods brought about, it will help you lose weight.

 

Stop having sugary beverages

 

Sugary or high-calorie beverages can fail all your attempts to lose weight if you keep ignoring. They can be as harmful as solid high-calorie foods. Try replacing these with healthy drinks or simply with water. As you keep consuming more and more water, it will flush out impurities from your body besides keeping your hydrated and fresh. Never forget to drink water an hour after your meals as it is the ideal time to hydrate your body. Gradually the love handles will begin to melt.

Have a good breakfast


If you do not take a good breakfast, it will make you feel hungry for the rest of the day. That will surely tempt you to reach out for taking the candy from the vending machine. A good example is a bowl of oat bran cereals with yoghurt, followed by fruits, nuts and seeds.

 

Cardio


You can burn the fat on your sides by doing some cardio. You need to choose some easy-to-do cardio for three to four days a week for a period of 45 to 60 minutes. These are brisk walking, elliptical training, jogging, spinning and swimming. Start gradually with a 5-minute warm up and end with 5 minute cool down. Ask a gym instructor or fitness expert about the ideal exercise for burning out your love handles.

Crunches


Perhaps the most popular exercise for toning the abdominal muscles as well as love handles are crunches. You have a choice between side crunches, Russian twists, bicycle crunches and side bridges. Include upper ab workouts such as leg raises, knee pull-ins and stability ball sit-ups.
