What’s more, these people are below the age of 30 and this is very alarming!

Tan, otherwise thought of as a sign of good health, is not actually healthy. When the skin is exposed to the sun’s rays, the ultraviolet radiation damages the cells, which produce melanin. This is called a tan. People feel the safe alternative is to get tanned artificially. But, it is not true.
Artificial tans are more dangerous to the skin. Harm is caused to the skin due to the ultra violet radiation. Tanning beds emit approximately 96% UVA and 4% UVB in order to produce tan. UVA rays are known to penetrate deeply into the skin and cause wrinkles on the skin as well as cause premature aging of the skin. Since they penetrate deeper, they cause problems to the inner most layer of the skin and the cells therein. Also, the UVA rays can cause mutations in the DNA. All these together lead to several kinds of skin cancer. Since UVA is used so much in tanning beds, it is advisable not to use the beds. UVB rays also aidin causing skin cancer by damaging the skin’s exterior layer or epidermis. Since they too are used in the tanning beds, it is best that the beds are not used to get a tan.

It is disturbing to know that many youngsters, teenagers use tanning beds once a month. This has led to an increase in the number of people suffering from skin cancer. In the interest of the health of young people, it is necessary that tanning booths do not encourage youngsters to use the tanning beds. In fact, it is necessary that the authorities take initiative to ban such tanning beds to reduce the number of people suffering from skin cancers. Spreading awareness regarding the side effects of tanning beds, will also help.
