Here are some symptoms found in children with hyperthyroidism:

  • Sleep Disturbances – A child with hyperthyroidism has the sympathetic nervous system in an over active state. This nervous system is responsible for an increase in the heart rate during anxiety, such as when doing a bungee jump. This makes them feel restless even when they are asleep. Tossing and turning will be usual and they will often wake up feeling tired.
  • Emotional Disturbances – One of the first symptoms of hyperthyroidism is feeling a variety of emotions in a very short span of time.  Children may get very excited or irritated fast and this frustration may cause them to shed tears more than usual.
  • Eye Related Problems – Children with hyperthyroidism often do complain about eye pain or decreased vision. This may also mean just the usual eye problems, but it is better to get him or her checked and find what is causing the problems. The eye may get affected by high levels of hormones.
  • Growth Acceleration – Along with a child’s height, his or her bones may also mature abnormally fast. The level of growth depends on the level of hormonal rise and the time span of the same.
  • Heart Related Symptoms – one of the symptoms among children suffering from this disease is that they will sweat more than usual and their skin will feel moist and warm to touch. The warm feeling is due to an increase in the blood flow. Also, they face heat intolerance, which makes them feel overly warm in places where they were comfortable earlier.

These symptoms may also mean that there are other problems that you can never know for sure unless you get your children checked. So, do visit a doctor and be sure of your child’s condition whenever you notice unusual behaviour.
